Choosing the right market is instrumental to your online success. It’s much more difficult to create a new market than to enter an existing market that is already highly profitable for existing businesses. The good thing about online business is that you can start a new business in a new market without as much overhead and headache as in the real world. If there are many players in a market that’s also good because you can see what the best people in your market are doing. You can then offer more value, match and beat their offering and dominate the market. You can switch between a few markets before you find your niche. The only mistake we make is the one we didn’t learn from. Be tenacious and keep trying. Do something that you’re passionate about, you’ve heard it before but it really is true that you need to give freely before expecting any return. Choose that area that interests you and where you can really benefit other people. Some people may not have a passion and maybe making money is one of them. You can find a product that is useful in that area and promote that.

As for me, my passions are:

Connecting with other young guys
Playing sport, in particular cricket, rugby, soccer and tennis.
Nutrition, eating a balanced diet
Fitness and Health
Spiritual Growth – I’m a follower of Jesus
Making money
Building profitable websites

These are the areas that I’ll focus on in one way or the other. It’s so important to finish each project that you start. Often another idea will spring into your head before you’ve finished and you’ll be tempted to drop what you’re doing and move on, don’t. Finish what you started and write down the new idea. This way you can have your current project making money or at least have a chance of while the new idea takes shape. It’s important to have an ideas book where you write all of those million or billion dollar ideas down and choose the best ones to take action on. Choose the ones that excite you the most.

Choose A Domain Name That Floods Traffic To Your Website

choose a domain name that gives your prospects what they most desperately desire! By choosing a domain name that targets the specific keywords for your website you'll flood your website with laser targeted traffic.
Choosing a domain name is a very critical part of your website marketing strategy.

By choosing a domain name that targets the specific keywords for your website you'll flood your website with laser targeted traffic by enhancing click through response.

Pick a domain name that gives your prospects what they most desperately desire. By including the keywords in your domain name that are your customers desires, including them in your marketing messages and your website content you can't help but flood traffic to your website!

Wondering what your customer's desires are? If so, you'll need to determine what your really selling. Let's look at an example product here: home security alarm system.

Keep in mind few people know, nor do they care what the heck the product looks like or the features of the product such as size, color, weight, speed, or availability. The only thing they have an interest in is the "results" your product will achieve for them. It all boils down to what's-in-it-for-me?

Why would a prospect purchase a home alarm system? What's-in-it-for-them? If you think for just a moment you'll come up with the right answer.

Yes, it's to protect their jewelry or valuables while they are at work or when the house is empty.

You must stop thinking of yourself or the features of your product to determine what your customer's deepest desires are. By turning your product or service features into "benefits" or "results" you'll be able to hit their hot buttons and flood traffic to your website in the process.

The easiest way to turn features into benefits is to list all the features of your product or service on a piece of paper first. (a feature is a characteristic of a thing: size, color, weight, speed, availability) Then one by one turn each feature into a benefit for your customer. What's-in-it-for-me-- save money? youthfulness? friends? security? money? power? luxury? prestige? thinner body? obedient pet?

The traffic driving potential of keyword targeted domain names is awesome, provided that you research your target market and satisfy their "true" needs, desires and benefits. Once you have established this system for marketing, you'll be able to use your domain name to construct specific ad campaigns targeted to specific markets even if your website offers multiple products and services.

To take it a step further, you could formulate a domain name that works like a headline for a classified ad. When you break a headline down it should have several different parts. It should fan the flames of desire with a hint of information about solving a specific problem, satisfying a need, providing a benefit, or invoking curiosity with a call to action. Your domain name should contain as many of these "headline characteristics" as possible. Try and phrase the keywords into something relatively short, catchy and easy to remember.

Keep in mind "what's-in-it-for-me?" as to "what your really selling". The job of your domain name is to act like a headline to drive targeted traffic to your website by "scratching the itch of your customers." If you've found the right words to scratch that itch, then ONLY YOU can put it to use in your domain name. You'll find that not only will you do better on your search engine rankings you'll also attract a lot more attention with your pay per click ads or any type of advertising you use.

Create Blogging Time - It's Essential

What's the perfect job? How about a job where you are your own boss, you set your own hours, work right from home, never have to deal with unreasonable deadlines and get to do something you love doing? Sound good? Well that's the job description of a blogger. That, however, is the not the whole story! There are very, very few bloggers who have nothing else to do but work on their blog and even fewer who have a blog that provides a decent source of income so blogging is, for most, a second or even a third “job.”

There are two basic types of bloggers, the casual blogger and the serious blogger.

The casual blogger may have a basically well balanced life and a blog that is primarily a hobby. The casual blogger will start writing a post, work at it for awhile and then stop to get some other things done until he or she feels like writing again. If a finished post doesn't get many comments, that's OK; the post expressed just what the casual blogger wanted to say and its out there if anyone is interested.

The serious blogger's situation is quite different from the casual blogger's. The serious blogger has a blog that he or she considers to be a job -- a job that may be competing with other important elements of life such as a primary job, a family, a social life and adequate rest. The serious blogger is committed (almost to the point of an obsession) to maintaining his or her blog and feels it is an essential element of daily life. The serious blogger feels dejected if any post sits on the blog for twenty-four hours or so without generating a comment or if the blog's “hit counter” does not register a certain number of visitors every day. That kind of commitment to blogging may take a big hunk of time out of the day and can easily create some serious conflicts between blogging and the rest of life -- to avoid this, the serious blogger needs to be organized and efficient.

Time management for the serious blogger! Anyone who feels that the day is too short needs to understand and implement the basic principle of time management: setting priorities. Some things are obviously more important than other things but some important things may be left undone unless you are controlling your schedule and not having random events control you. You need to set priorities and live by them.

Make a priority list! To begin setting priorities, make a list of everything you need to get done -- everything including things you've committed to doing, things you want to do, things you know you should do and things that you really don't want to do but are on your mind. Be honest and put everything on the list -- take a couple hours or more to put it together if you need that much time, it will be time well spent because you are about to get organized.

Important: You will be using and modifying this list every day so create the list using some program that will allow you to move list items around, add items, remove items and save the list. Just notepad or your word processing program will do nicely but there are other more specialized programs available -- they may even be free, check out: Tucows at tucows. com.

Categorize! Now carefully consider each item on the list and put each one into one of the following five categories.

Must get it done today
Must get it done this week
Nice to do and might be beneficial
Nice to do but not really necessary
Unnecessary

Now you have a decent priority list. Start every day with this list and every time you become aware of a new task add it in a proper place to the proper category. As the “must do” items are accomplished and moved off the list, some of the nice-to-do items may be moved up, but only if their priorities can honestly be changed.

Too many must-do things! If the list of items in the two “Must get it done . . . ” categories is overwhelming, reconsider each item's importance and re-prioritize if you can, if not select the items that you really don't have to do yourself, things like fix-it projects, business phone calls, business letters, editing and proofreading jobs, etc. -- some of these things may be able to be done just as well by someone else. Find a friend, family member, co-worker or a freelancer to do it for you.

Blogging and SEO - A perfect Small Business Internet Marketer Match

Blogging can be an Internet Marketer's best friend by allowing business to communicate directly with their clients.  But, did you know that blogging can also directly impact your Search Engine Optimization efforts?
blog, wordpress, blogger, seo, search engine optimization, internet marketing, increase traffic
Blogging and SEO - A perfect Small Business Internet Marketer Match

It has become pretty obvious that blogs have been become an important part of marketing for almost any type of online business.  They are unmatched resources when it comes to connecting with customers and potential customers.

But, there is an additional benefit that shouldn't be over-looked:  there impact on your Search Engine Optimization efforts.  Blogging can greatly enhance any websites natural search results through regular postings, and natural keyword placement. There in fact is no stronger way to market ones website for free than by blogging with natural keywords.

Similar to article marketing, posting daily blogs with the keywords of your business included can have remarkable effects on the ranking of your site in any given search engine, and thus net you more traffic. One key to gaining more traffic from keywords is to use ‘niche’ keywords. These are keywords or keyword phrases that may be searched for less often, but that have less competition. This means you may be able to rank much higher for these keyword. An example: The keyword term “baseball” is certainly searched for often, but there are millions of websites optimized around this keyword. However a keyword phrase like “Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz news” would have fewer competitors. The longer keyword also increases the likelihood that your blog contains exactly what the visitor is looking for.

Getting picked up in search engines can lead to increase volumes of traffic heading to your site every day. There are top keyword placers that use blogs to retain huge amounts of daily traffic to their sites just by integrating a variety of niche keywords into their posts. The amazing thing about blogs is they are often picked up by the search engines almost as quickly as one posts to it, which makes it an even more powerful tool for SEO purposes.  Our experience has been that blogs that take advantage of Google's Blogger or Wordpress are quickly indexed.

Another way blogging can help your site’s search engine ranking is by the quality score. Most search engines, including Google rank sites with a quality score, the more unique, user provided content, the higher it appears the quality score becomes. If a website is just a sales page, and a few pictures, the quality score will most likely be low. But if a site has a blog on it, with fresh, daily posts, the quality score becomes much better, and thus the site gets ranked much higher when people are searching for your niche, or keyword terms.

If you haven't considered a blog for the pure marketing aspect of it, it's probably time you considered it from the SEO perspective.  You've got nothing to loss but website visitors.

Get free advertising while helping MWR grow!

In the hopes of increasing the terrific momentum that MyWebResource has gained, I'm posting this announcement offering free advertisement to all webmasters who publish their content on MyWebResource.  It's free, it's easy to do, and the natural links back to your site will more than make up for the five minutes it takes to post your content.
MyWebResource is a site that was initially published to list all my favorite webmaster resources.  At first, it was more of a personal site where I kept all my bookmarks and projects I've worked on.  Surprisingly, the site started getting a ton of hits. I found that people actually enjoyed browsing a site that had usable information about web design that is not loaded down with a million ads and is not a "free for all" link directory.

Seeing this trend inspired me to develop MyWebResource further.  Several months later, MyWebResource has become a terrific resource for any webmaster where they can read articles about web design, search engine optimization, web hosting, or any other topic related to web design.  Our directory of links has grown leaps and bounds.  There are now over 300 reputable links in our directory that are actually useful! Our downloads section is growing too!  There are now several free website templates, XOOPS themes and XOOPS modules that all are welcome to download, free of charge.

What we are looking for
We have opened up submission of quality web design related articles, links, and downloads.  All you have to do is click on the appropriate link under "Add A Resource", fill out the form and submit it.  One of our moderators will review your contribution to ensure that it is of good quality and will publish it as soon as possible.

How you benefit
By including a link to your website when publishing articles, links and/or downloads on MyWebResource, you receive natural links to your website with no reciprocal link required! As we all know, relevant, natural, one-way links are what feeds search engine spiders and boosts page rank and SERPs (search engine results pages). TIP: To improve the benefit of listing your content on MyWebResource, include a natural link to your site in the text.  For maximum benefit, turn a primary keyword into a text link!

How MyWebResource Benefits
By contributing your content, MyWebResource will continue to grow as a noted webmaster resource.  A personal benefit to me is that I don't have to spend hours looking for good information on web design, it comes to the site.  This helps everyone by centralizing information and making it easier to research your design projects.

Another issue that effects page rank and SERPs is content; fresh, relevant content to be exact.  By keeping the content on MyWebResource fresh, it helps boost our standings in search engines, which in turn helps increase the value of the link back to your site.  As you can see, this is a mutually beneficial arrangement. ;-)

What is the catch?
There is none! MyWebResource doesn't require membership. There are no fees associated with publishing anything on MyWebResource. There are no pop-up advertisements. In fact, we have intentionally limited the number of advertisements on the site so as not to distract from the content too much. We only have enough advertisements to cover the cost of keeping MyWebResource online!

So, why are you doing this?
Pure and simple, I love web design!  I want to learn as much as I possibly can about all aspects of web design and development and I want to share that knowledge with like minded people.

So what are you waiting for?! You can start getting free advertisement for your site, while contributing to a rapidly growing resource of web design knowledge right now!

I look forward to sharing knowledge with you.

How NOT to Publish an Ezine

I have written several articles on how to publish an ezine, so this time I thought it might be interesting to write an article on how NOT to publish an ezine.
ezine publishing, mailing list, internet ebook business, marketing strategies, resell ebooks, wholesale, free resale, Terri Seymour
I have written several articles on how to publish an ezine, so this time I thought it might be interesting to write an article on how NOT to publish an ezine.

Sometimes it helps to learn things when you can look at both sides of the prices - the right way and the wrong way.  So here goes - what NOT to do when publishing an ezine.

1. Leave out your name and contact info - Who would want to get in touch with you anyway.  Your readers don't care if there is a real live dependable person writing the ezine.  NOT!

Your readers definitely want to know that there is a real person there that they can contact if they want or need to.  This helps establish trust.

2. Put as many squiggles and decorations in your ezine as possible - So, your readers get a headache while trying to read your ezine, deal with it.  NOT!

Squiggles may look cute, but they could make it hard for many people to read your ezine.  Keep the design neat and clean for easy reading.

3. Load the ezine with ads - I mean after all, isn't that why you are publishing your ezine.  NOT!

No, you are not publishing an ezine to run tons of ads, you are publishing an ezine to build that important relationship of trust and respect with your readers.  This helps build your business and your reputation.

4. Don't bother sending it out regularly - After all, most people can't read it every time anyway.  NOT!

How can people trust and believe what you say when they can't even depend on you to send your ezine on schedule.

5. Don't add any original material - Just use all the same material other publishers are using.  It works for them, why not for you.  NOT!

Always have original material in your ezine, even if it is just an editorial or some tips.

6. Why bother with a disclaimer or privacy policy - Readers know their email is safe with you.  They also figure if it is in your ezine, you recommend it.  NOT!

Never assume anything.  Your readers want to be assured that their email is not being handed out for profit or promotion.  Also, you want your readers to know that they should check out all offers, opportunities and ads. Just because it is in your ezine, does not mean you are recommending it.

7. Content is content, right - As long as your ezine is full of "stuff", it is helpful.  NOT!

Try to give your readers basic, straightforward, helpful information that they can actually use to benefit them.  Don't use hyped up ads disguised as tips or articles. Quality content is key.

8. Don't let your readers get to know you - They are interested in your ezine, not you.  NOT!

Your readers need to know you so they can trust you and know that they can depend on you to publish a consistent, quality ezine.

9. Don't bother formatting the ezine correctly - Who cares how many characters are in each line, it all reads the same.  NOT!

Definitely format your ezine uniformly and evenly.  You want to produce a clean, sharp, professional ezine.

10. Don't waste time proofreading.  Everybody makes mistakes, right?  What is a mistake or two - nobody is perfect.  NOT!

Take the time to make sure all spelling and grammar is correct in your ezine before you send it out.  After all, you are a professional, right?

I hope these tips have given you a good idea on how NOT to publish an ezine and a fresh perspective on how to correctly publish an ezine.  Producing a quality ezine that your readers can depend on will be a very big business booster!

How to blog your way to success?

Blog is a short of "weB LOG" or a method of storing any kind of information online. Such organized informational posting and archiving was named "Blog".By the form Blog represents an updated web-site of current and archived posts. A dead-simple concept turned out to be extremely powerful in terms of satisfaction of Internet community needs.
People online look for fresh, relevant information on a certain topic and this is where Blogs come into arena and win that battle for a visitors' attention hands-down.
They give you exactly what you need - targeted, updated information on any given topic, with an access to archive, search functions and even some sort of interactive experience as you can usually read comments of other visitors and participate in a small discussion like on a message board.
Why Blog can be just the perfect solution you have been looking for and how it can solve massive publishing problems at once. Here is why Blog can be your website and money-making system in one:
1. Blog is a simple CMS (Content Management System). It helps you solve hundreds of little hassles webmasters were forced to waste months before in order to solve each of them such as means of easy creating new pages with automatic cross-linking and archiving functions, installing visitor feedback script, managing and updating navigational menu, republishing RSS feeds and creating own feed and so on.
2. Built-in promotion. RSS feed is also a great viral marketing tool by itself. You don't have to stuff your head with "how-to-make-my-content-viral" problems any "traditional" website webmaster faces.
As a Blog publisher you use the same RSS feed as a way of syndicating your Blog content for any other websites. What they need is adding your RSS feed to their Feed rendering software. The technology is highly popular, so you will not have any problems with that.
Just add your RSS feed to a number of Blog Directories, ping (notify) Blog servers each time you make a new post (a common built-in feature for almost all Blogs) and in 90% case it will be enough to start your marketing ball rolling plus reassure fast search engine indexing.
3. Built in RSS (Atom) feeds are considered by many to be the ideal solution for all SPAM and filters problems of "traditional" email marketers.
RSS feeds are updated automatically as soon as you make a new post to your Blog. No more troubles with managing "email lists", subscribers, unsubscribers, email filters, HTML forms, SPAM complaints, follow-ups and so on and so forth. Forget about it. RSS will help you do everything, including follow-ups and even email courses publishing.
The difference, and many consider it to be the true benefit, is that RSS uses so-called "pull" method of delivering a message. Unlike "traditional" email, you don't have to send (push) anything to anybody. When you publish a new post, your RSS feed updates automatically, pings syndicating websites with a new Blog post and notifies (or not) your RSS subscribers about your new post, so they can load (pull) it and read.
That is how RSS solves SPAM emails and SPAM filters problems with one stone. Your subscribers just don't receive anything to be complained or worried about. They just personally subscribe to your RSS feed (no one can subscribe for them) with their special RSS reader program (RSS aggregator, available free everywhere on the net). Then they periodically and mostly automatically load your new Blog posts. If they don't like it, they just remove your RSS feed from their RSS feed aggregator software and that's all. Unlike email you cannot "push" your post to their RSS soft without their wish. Depending on set options, they need to manually, semi-automatically or automatically load your Blog post themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against email. Quite the contrary, at some point, when you feel that you have a lot of spare time because of advantages that RSS brings, I strongly advise you to add email marketing to your arsenal. It does help you out in some special occasions. It is just you won't rely on email as the only money-making resource and will use it professionally as a great add-on instrument, limiting its possible negative effects.
From what you can see, blogs are perfect and simple software machines to run and maintain your informational business. They proved their efficiency in small niche markets as well as multilevel blog systems generating stable income for their glad owners. You can be one of them.

How to promote your website through ezines

How to promote your website through ezines should be something to consider for all website owners.
How to promote your website through ezines should be something to consider for all website owners. Why are ezines important for the promotion of websites you might be asking yourself? Ezines are an exceelent way to reach a hopefully large number of your target audience all in one place. If done properly promoting your website through ezines will drive traffic and potential customers thus creating great business for yourself. There are several ways that knowing how to promote your website through ezines can be beneficial,

If you are a good writer one way how to promote your website through ezines is finding a website in your target market and submitting an article. When ezine readers see that you are knowledgeable in your chosen business specialty they will be more likely to trust you and value your opinions. Make sure you put a small biography about yourself and a link to your website at the end of all content that you submit to ezines. Another tip as to how to promote your website through ezines using content if you are not a writer yourself is to hire a writer to create content for you.

Purchasing an advertisement is another way how to promote your website through ezines. For example if you happen to sell yarn and knitting supplies and you place an ad in a knitting related ezine readers are quite likely to visit your website and make a purchase after reading about a great new knitting pattern. Offering a "reader's special", such as free shipping ,in your advertisement is a great way to encourage purchases. Most ezines listed their advertisements at the end of the ezine though many ezine publishers offer a featured advertiser option with ad placement in a much more prominent position. This is an excellent option how to promote your website through ezines if it fits into your promotional budget.

Yet another way how to advertise your website through ezines is to simply get a link to the website you are promoting into an ezine. Many ezine creators offer this option as a less expensive promotional alternative to a traditional business advertisement. You could also offer to trade links with an ezine publisher that way both of you will benefit by the promotion.

You could also start your own ezine as a way how to promote your website through ezines. Ezines can be fairly inexpensive to create and you can not only have your business benefit by the exposure you can also bring in income by offering advertising to other business owners.

Spending time researching to find quality ezines that target your chosen audience and making sure you have a solid promotional plan in place is the best way how to promote your website through ezines.

How to write and optimize an effective press release

Online press release can provide considerable platform to reach huge online community. This article will provide complete guidance to make out well optimize and well written press release for PR distribution through the press release network. A well prepared press release would attract journalists and is also well optimized for distribution to targeted audience.

Proper keywords: Selecting key word is the most important part of press release optimization. Be very careful while deciding on a keyword phrase that is pertinent to the product or service you are offering. The best recommended tool to search keywords is wordtracker.com.

Keyword or phrase position: Place key phrase into the headline and the title of your press release. Try to repeat it nearly 2-3 times in the content of the release.

Starting should be solid: Remember to make your title and initial lines cover that you want to express. The remaining part of your press release should depict the detailed information.

Use product name repetitively: Repeat placements of the name of your service or product to make it eminent. For example, write “Search Engine Optimization” instead of writing “SEO”, this would make your product name much popular.

Draft it for Journalists/Media agencies: The media agencies and journalists would grab your press release and publish it in their publications; they may slightly edit your press release.

Consider viewer’s interest: You should consider to whom you are targeting your press release, and what is their interest. Think, if you were a part of audience, would you like to read the press release you have written.

Make your press release appear practical: Point out real facts of your company/organization, as readers are already so scholar enough to find out ‘what’s true and what not’?

Make your story that includes real facts: Avoid untrue examples and add-ons. If you find the content using much added extras, make it natural and real. Your press release should be in active voice, not passive. Verbs in the active voice makes your press release live.

Use only sufficient and essential words: Avoid using superfluous adjectives, extravagant language, or unnecessary expressions like “The most powerful”. Tell your story with lesser words, as verbosity distracts from your content.

Avoid usage of terminology: However, a limited use of terminology would be allowed if required, if you aim to optimize news release for internet search engines. The finest technique to communicate your press release is to speak neatly, using regular language.

Keep away from too many exclamations: Too much usage of exclamation point (!) may harm your press release. But, if you have to use an exclamation point, use only one.

Get company permission: Companies are very self-protective about their recognition and credibility. So, get written permission before putting in any information or quotes about the company.

Company Information: The press release should include a short description of company, which depicts your company, products, service and a brief history of company.

Pick precise PR distribution network: Deciding on press release distribution network is also an important. There are hundreds of free press release distribution networks exist so it is critical to select on whether to go for paid services or free.

Propose RSS feeds: Assist journalist by offering RSS feeds so that they haul to your website. Through this interested parties will get known that you have relevant release on the topic for, which they are searching for.

Publish releases often: Try to publish press releases frequently to be recognized as news source for news agencies such as Yahoo news and Google news.

Company newsletters can be an amazingly successful marketing technique. Whether you want to up-sell or cross-sell, establish your brand or establish your authority, or simply reach a wider market, a newsletter can do the job for you. You just have to make sure you write it right.

Television, radio, and print advertising are often too expensive for many businesses to justify – especially small businesses. Fortunately, there is an alternative. Today’s internet and email technologies make company newsletters a very inexpensive, yet surprisingly effective, form of advertising. When it comes to newsletters, big companies and small are finally competing on a level playing field.

So what is an email newsletter?
An emailed newsletter serves much the same purpose as a traditional company newsletter. Think of it as a short newspaper – but instead of relating to a town, city or country, it relates to your business. You can include articles on new products or services, awards, recent success stories and case studies, promotions, specials, share price rises, company events, research… And if it’s a quiet month, you can simply write articles that might help your customers out.

10 Steps to Success
Follow 10 simple rules of thumb, and you’ll soon be writing great newsletters and reaping the rewards…

1) Keep It New! Your readers won’t waste time reading something they already know, so make it news they can use.

2) Keep it personal: Always use your reader’s name. Make sure when someone signs up, you get their name, then use it in the subject line, in the greeting, and anywhere else you can.

3) Know your reader: Find out what your reader is interested in. Do some pro-active research, invite response, or find an email marketing solution such as Ezemail** that tracks the links your readers click on and keeps a history of their activity.

4) Let them know you: Let your personality shine through. Readers are far more likely to become loyal if they feel they know you. Always include a bit of you in the newsletter, whether it’s humour, personal details, personal anecdotes, or personal views.

5) Subject is Headline: The subject line of an email newsletter is like a front-page headline in a newspaper. You need to draw the reader in, so make it engaging and relevant (maybe promise a benefit) but no more than 25 characters so your reader can see it all before opening the email.

6) Use a Title bar: Make the most of the title bar to add visual appeal and establish brand awareness.

7) Make it ‘scannable’: Most people don’t read online – they scan. Make sure you use easy-to-read bullet points and sub-headings. Don’t lose your reader’s attention. Reading is physically more difficult online, so make sure you’re concise. Use links to other places instead of writing long articles.

8) Use White space!: If your page is too busy, you’ll lose your reader. Give them a chance to absorb valuable information by dedicating about 30% of your screen real estate to white space.

9) Easy unsubscribe: Make your unsubscribe easy to find. If it’s obvious, they’ll feel safe and can then appreciate the content. To many people, the ease of unsubscribing is an indicator of the integrity of your company.

10) Forward to a friend: Include a link to encourage readers to forward the newsletter on to their friends and colleagues. Find an email marketing solution which allows you to do this and sit back and watch your database grow!

Why should you choose the correct website?

Someone will ask his friend to call and order the essay; the other will ring up himself and will elaborate on the content of his work for hours. Another believes that informing the custom service about the topic of his dissertations 3 days before the deadline he can expect flawless work because he pays quite enough. Someone will ask his friend to call and order the essay; the other will ring up himself and will elaborate on the content of his work for hours. Another believes that informing the custom service about the topic of his dissertations 3 days before the deadline he can expect flawless work because he pays quite enough. You will be surprised, but the work quality does not depend only on its price. Here a lot of conditions matter. If you fulfill them, your work will be perfect and both the customer and the writing service will enjoy this partnership. So…

Rule 1. The earlier you place your order, the better essay paper you will get. Some companies promise you to complete a dissertation in three days, but will you trust such a company? Sometimes working on a tiny cause and effect essay will take a lot of time if the topic is too complicated and unclear.

Rule 2. Don’t put off. If you know the deadline of your paper, in the order form write a date 1 – 2 days earlier. There are always some unexpected and unpredictable events that are sure to happen just before the closing date. Interrupted internet connection, the phone is off, the writer suddenly falls ill and so on. All of these situations are real and in most cases it is not so difficult to solve them, if you still have a few days in store. We don’t know if certain writer will finish his work before the indicated deadline. And I am 100% sure that he won’t as he has a lot of orders to be completed, a number of force majeures and the only thing he usually lacks is time. That is why you must take care of this yourself. So, we have discussed when you must order. Now we have to determine whom can we trust our assignment with?

Rule 3. Your friend’s recommendation is the best solution. In this case you have a real example of the offered services. You can judge about the quality, timeliness of the order, terms of the revision and other details. If your friends keep silent, you should rely only on yourself. Choosing a site pay attention to the grammatical correctness of the texts and the terms of partnership. You may also judge about the writing company from the samples of completed works. The information presented on the site must give you more or less clear and complete picture of the company.

Rule 5. Be precise. The more details about your work you will include in the order form, the better final product you will get. If the tutor gives you an opportunity to choose a topic by yourself - leave the choice for the writer. If you have additional requirements indicate them with as much detail as possible.

Rule 6. Trust, but control. Even if you are very busy, spare a minute and give a call or write an e- mail, wondering how the order is progressing. After a few days you may ask the writer if he has any difficulties with the order, if he will manage to complete the order by the deadline.

Rule 7. What you have for your money. You have the right to demand the fulfillment of the following rules:

• Free of plagiarism work

• Complete coverage of the problem topic

• The appropriate structure and format of the work

• No grammar or spelling mistakes

• Free revision if the indicated requirements are not met

• Appropriate and thorough research ( if necessary)

Perhaps these are the main things you should keep in mind while surfing the internet in search of the nice site able to develop your confusing persuasive essay topic into an elegant piece of writing.

List servers and list serving software can be a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. Trust me, I know ...

If you are new to Internet Marketing, or just new to the way of web business, and there's all these other things to learn and think about, there are five VERY good reasons to leave commercial list serving software systems alone for now and simply use a Yahoogroup to do all the work for you.

1. EVERYBODY Knows ...

... what a Yahoogroup is, and even if they don't, they'll soon pick it up. By using Yahoogroups, you are tapping into a long, long established institution that is globally known and trusted; this will make it much easier to get people who don't really know you yet to subscribe to your ezine or newsletter.

2. Yahoogroups are very easy.

Even for absolute beginners, Yahoogroups are easy to set up and easy to manage. You don't have to worry about the vagaries of AOL emails, double opt in procedures, anti-spam declarations, unsubscription features or any of it, it's all taken care of for you. They also come with little sign up boxes and buttons, and the admin interface, although not exactly intuitive, can soon be worked out by trial and error.

3. Yahoogroups messages don't get caught in spam filters.

Spam filters are the SCOURGE of ezines and email delivery. When you send your messages via the Yahoogroups delivery system, this is not a problem; as Yahoo is such a mega beast, it has its own exceptions in mostly all spam filters known to mankind and your messages WILL at least reach their intended recipients.

4. Yahoogroups have useful extra features.

You can do a lot with a Yahoogroup if you are willing to spent some time on it. Weblinks, an attractive group page, bookmarks, file downloads and more are all available for the beginner web entrepreneur to optimise and use, easily at that.

5. Yahoogroups are FREE.

Alright, so the group messages carry third party advertising, but that is a very small price to pay for access to a system that can easily and very elegantly serve hundreds of thousands of messages, that is reliable and steady and so well known. Other than that, there are no set up fees, no ongoing charges, and it's there for you whenever you want it.

Once you are ready to do so, you can export your list and put it on your own personal commercial list server systems, complete with technicians who take care of everything behind the scenes - until then, and if you haven't done this before, to simply use Yahoogroups for ezine delivery is a really good way to get started with your ezine and to build up your subscriber base.

Google And Your Domain Name

Many people overlook the importance of their domain name when trying to optimize their website for Google. With the amount of competition out there this may give you the edge.
Google, being the largest and most used search engine and is extremely important to optimize your website for. As a matter of fact, if you optimize your website just for Google you’d find your rankings in Yahoo! and MSN will jump up higher than your ranking in Google. I’ve optimized many websites that show up in at least the top 20 listings in Google and found that in each case they ranked higher in Yahoo! and MSN usually in the top 3 positions with most in the number one spots.

Most everyone agrees that with Google content is king. So writing good copy with just the right amount of keyword phrases, for keyword density is important. And natural anchor text links is second to the throne, which takes lots of work and proper timing to do properly.

Third in line are keyword phrases (notice I said phrase because single keywords are almost impossible to optimize for), which need to be researched to find the right phrase for you and not used to often in the content/text to get the right density. Used to often and you’ll hurt your ranking.

Fourth in line are the Meta Description Tag which when used properly can actually bring visitors to your website who wouldn’t normally come there. Of course there are several other factors involved with getting that elusive number one spot.

But what most everyone often overlooks is what I call the fifth element which Google uses to determine their ranking of a website and that's the domain name.

People, even SEO companies, don’t either know the importance of the domain name to Google or take the time to chose the proper name for the website. Most just use their company name or what they conceder a "Cool" name for their websites. Now, unless your company is well known or at least well known in its field, using a basically unknown company name is pointless. Even more pointless is the "Cool" name.

The entire reason you optimize your website is to get visitors from search engines, so why not use all the tools available to get the best ranking possible for your website.

Use your domain name as one of those tools. Instead of your company name or the "Cool" one, use a keyword phrase, one that describes your product or service. Take your time in choosing the proper name. Make sure that it will work best for your website. If you not sure ask your friends and relatives what keywords they would use to find your product or services on the Internet. You might be surprised at what they would use.

You have the keyword phrase that you know will work. But before you jump online and get that domain name there are a couple of things you may still need to do.

Let's say you're the owner of Mike's Bikes and you specialize in Colorado Mountain Bikes so you figure to kill two birds with one stone and use the domain name mikescoloradomountainbikes.com to keep your name in it along with using the keyword phrase. Now this might make sense to you but you’re not Google. You're not going to like it but you need to drop the mikes out of the name because it's dead weight.

So now you've got coloradomountainbikes.com but wait before you burn up the keyboard use Colorado-mountain-bikes.com instead. Why? Because Google sees this as three different words and would see coloradomountainbikes.com as a single word. When people are doing a search they will not be using coloradomountainbikes, they are going to use Colorado mountain bikes. The bonus is that your domain name now becomes a keyword phrase used by Google when it performs a search.

5 Basic Rules of Web Design

5 Basic Rules of Web Design the most important rule in web design is that your web site should be easy to read. What does this mean? You should choose your text and background colours very carefully.
5 Basic Rules of Web Design the most important rule in web design is that your web site should be easy to read. What does this mean? You should choose your text and background colours very carefully. You don't want to use backgrounds that obscure your text or use colours that are hard to read. Dark-coloured text on a light-coloured background is easier to read than light-coloured text on a dark background.

You also don't want to set your text size too small (hard to read) or too large (it will appear to shout at your visitors). All capitalised letters give the appearance of shouting at your visitors.

Keep the alignment of your main text to the left, not cantered. Centre-aligned text is best used in headlines. You want your visitors to be comfortable with what they are reading, and most text is left aligned.

Your web site should be easy to navigate

All of your hyperlinks should be clear to your visitors. Graphic images, such as buttons or tabs, should be clearly labelled and easy to read. Your web graphic designer should select the colours, backgrounds, textures, and special effects on your web graphics very carefully. It is more important that your navigational buttons and tabs be easy to read and understand than to have "flashy" effects. Link colours in your text should be familiar to your visitor (blue text usually indicates an unvisited link and purple or maroon text usually indicates a visited link), if possible. If you elect not to use the default colours, your text links should be emphasized in some other way (boldfaced, a larger font size, set between small vertical lines, or a combination of these). Text links should be unique - they should not look the same as any other text in your web pages. You do not want people clicking on your headings because they think the headings are links.

Your visitors should be able to find what they are looking for in your site within three clicks. If not, they are very likely to click off your site as quickly as they clicked on.

Your web site should be easy to find

How are your visitors finding you online? The myth, "If I build a web site, they will come," is still a commonly held belief among companies and organisations new to the Internet. People will not come to your web site unless you promote your site both online and offline.

Web sites are promoted online via search engines, directories, award sites, banner advertising, electronic magazines (e-zines) and links from other web sites. If you are not familiar with any of these online terms, then it is best that you have your site promoted by an online marketing professional.

Web sites are promoted offline via the conventional advertising methods: print ads, radio, television, brochures, word-of-mouth, etc. Once you have created a web site, all of your company's printed materials including business cards, letterhead, envelopes, invoices, etc. should have your URL printed on them.

Not only should your web site be easy to find, but your contact information should be easy to find. People like to know that there is a person at the other end of a web site who can help them in the event that:

1. They need answers to questions which are not readily available on your web site;

2. Some element on your site is not working and end users need to be able to tell you about it, and

3. Directory editors need you to modify parts of your site to be sure that your site is placed in the most relevant category.

By giving all relevant contact information (physical address, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and email address), you are also creating a sense of security for your end users. They can contact you in the way that makes them feel the most comfortable.

Your web page layout and design should be consistent throughout the site

Just as in any document formatted on a word processor or as in any brochure, newsletter, or newspaper formatted in a desktop publishing program, all graphic images and elements, typefaces, headings, and footers should remain consistent throughout your web site. Consistency and coherence in any document, whether it is a report or a set of web pages, project a professional image.

For example, if you use a drop shadow as a special effect in your bullet points, you should use drop shadows in all of your bullets. Link-colours should be consistent throughout your web pages. Typefaces and background colours, too, should remain the same throughout your site.

Colour-coded web pages, in particular, need this consistency. Typefaces, alignment in the main text and the headings, background effects, and the special effects on graphics should remain the same. Only the colours should change.

Your web site should be quick to download

Studies have indicated that visitors will quickly lose interest in your web site if the majority of a page does not download within 15 seconds. (Artists' pages should have a warning at the top of their pages.) Even web sites that are marketed to high-end users need to consider download times. Sometimes, getting to web sites such as Microsoft or Sun Microsystems is so difficult and time consuming that visitors will often try to access the sites during non-working hours from their homes. If your business does not have good brand name recognition, it is best to keep your download time as short as possible.

A good application of this rule is adding animation to your site. Sure, animation looks "cool" and does initially catch your eye, but animation graphics tend to be large files. Test the download time of your pages first. If the download time of your page is relatively short and the addition of animation does not unreasonably increase the download time of your page, then and ONLY then should animation be a consideration.

Finally, before you consider the personal preferences of your web page design, you should consider all of the above rules FIRST and adapt your personal preferences accordingly. The attitude "I don't like how it looks" should always be secondary to your web site's function. Which is more important: creative expression/corporate image or running a successful business?

4 Steps To Success In Web Development

If you are planning to become a serious player in the webdesign world, you should now what to learn and discover. Here's a short list that gives you an overview of your needs.
If you are planning to become a serious player in the webdesign world, you should now what to learn and discover. Here's a short list that gives you an overview of your needs.

1. Learn HTML
Before you start creating websites you should master HTML. This is the key element to even start publishing documents on the web. This sounds pretty obvious but there are some elements that you should understand like the label element which will add great usability to a form.

2. Master Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
I can't stress this enough. DO NOT USE TABLES FOR YOUR LAYOUT!

Is it clear? Don't, just don't. Why? Because they work against you instead of for you. You can have so much more control of your layout, design and colors if you use 100% CSS.

1. CSS is easy
2. CSS is fast to create
3. CSS is lightning fast when your website loads
4. CSS is easy to modify

So forget table layouts and start using stylesheets. You will really like the things you can accomplish once you master them.

3. Learn A Server Side Language
This is needed to make dynamic websites like forums. PHP and ASP are a great example. You will need to understand what you can do with these languages and start using them.

Without a server side language your websites are really hard to maintain and will give you a hard job in creating an efficient website structure.
4. Learn A Database Language

I recommend learning MySQL since this is an open source database and is installed on most hosting providers in combination with PHP.

A database is nothing else then some tables with data. You can select data with queries like:

SELECT * FROM table WHERE ID = 3;

Now everything is selected from table when the ID equals three. It's not hard to understand SQL, you just need to know how it works. PHPMyAdmin can help you a lot when you are creating your database.
So, start with step 1, and stick with CSS as long as you don't master it. CSS is huge, and you will love it once you know how it works.

For application development you can't do without a language like PHP and a database like MySQL.

4 Stages of Website Design

Stage 1 - Style over substance
The first stage is to design a site that the chief executive officer, venture capitalists, and ad agencies like to see. There are all types of "bells and whistles" in this design. An entire site might be a Flash animated site. Or there might be some beautiful JavaScript mouse over effects or drop-down menus in the design. It's always a pretty design, but the message is clear - style over substance.

It's always a pretty design, but the message is clear - style over substance.

Stage 2 - Designing for online visibility
In Stage 2, the reality of an ineffective web design begins to hit, usually around 3-6 months after the initial launch. A site will typically get rejected by many of the major directories, not be indexed by the major search engines, or not get the traffic or sales that were projected based on the various types of marketing strategies used. Typically, that's when companies decide that they will try to hire a professional online marketer to promote the site. Doorway page companies, in some way, shape or form, rear their ugly heads. Unfortunately, many web site owners fall for a doorway page company's pitch because the beautifully designed site couldn't possibly be the problem with low site traffic. Yahoo might have rejected a site, or the site might have been listed in Yahoo and the company cannot understand why they have no description next to their company name. But in no way would many ad agencies or doorway page companies want to tell potential clients the truth -- they simply did not design and write an effective web site -- because it would mean losing thousands of pounds in business

Stage 3 - Designing for your audience
By Stage 3, after spending an exorbitant amount of money on pretty web site designs and various marketing strategies, web site owners generally figure out that they did not design or write an effective Web site for their target audience. Typically, web site owners will bring in a usability expert to analyze potential problems and present various solutions. Bringing in a search engine marketing expert to help with search-engine friendly web designs &templates early in the design phase can save a company thousands of pounds in online marketing costs.

Stage 4 - Site redesign
After careful usability and search engine visibility analyses, web site owners finally have an effective web site. A site that is written, coded and designed for user friendliness and search engine visibility generally gets the most traffic and resulting sales because it was written, programmed, and designed for end users.

Conclusion
Web sites should always be designed with your target audience in mind, not your own personal preferences. Colours have meaning. Professional designers understand the psychology of colour and the use of white space to best project the image your audience wishes to see. (For example, try not to use the colour red on a financial site.) Understanding the products/services/information your target audience is searching for is paramount to designing and maintaining an effective web site. When you launch a site, you might have to make an educated guess as to what your target audience wants. After that, tools such as site statistics software and reporting from site searches tell you exactly what your visitors are looking for. Then content and marketing strategies can be adjusted accordingly. Unless the advanced technology clearly benefits end users, do not use it on your site. If your venture capitalists or CEO's or lawyers like the site, ask if they are going to spend the thousands or millions of pounds to keep you in business.

They're not. Your target audience who will ultimately determine the success or failure of your site.

4 Secrets of a Great Page Layout

When it comes to web development, one of the most difficult things to do is the lay out.
Designers especially the newbies go frantic on how to go about it. It has to be attractive, engrossing, user-friendly and functional. Thus, unraveling the secrets will definitely bind the website.

So, what are these layout secrets?

Together let us unfold them one after another…

1. Centering it all is no good. The secret is doing the contrary and not centering everything. The latter will just make the page disorganized, strewn and drab. The alignment may also seem weak and wanting.

2. The use and mastery of contrast is indispensable. Contrast is one thing that makes the page attractive. The use and mastery of it in color, value, size and weight will greatly affect the site’s appearance and edge. In fact a typeface may appear bigger with the use of contrast in color. The latter can also affect the look of organization of the page. At a glance, a page may appear organized or the exact opposite. That is the secret of contrast.

3. Apply deviations if necessary. Most of the designers practice nowadays is to develop a ‘uniform-pages’ look. They try to use same background colors and other peculiarities to establish similarities to the homepage or other pages. But the fact is that viewers can be easily bored with that scheme. Viewers always want something new and by giving them a repetitious work, they are pissed off and transfer to another site where they can feast both their eyes and mind.

Placing lines in between contents also manifests division. Instead of using these lines, use blank ‘buffer zones’. This way what are created are invisible lines to make the effect subtle.

4. Do not forget that functionality is the king of web development. Moreover, keep the content and information full, tight and pretty useful. Use the space, don’t waste. Only leave a small percentage for blank spaces. Use the space cleverly in order for the website not to look crowded at the same time loose. Multiple columns are also advisable in order to maximize space.

These four topmost secrets in page layout are so crucial that to break them may spell disaster or the end of your precious site.

3 Ways Coaches Can Use Their Site To Get More Clients

Trying to get clients can seem like a catch-22. In order to hire you, they need a strong sense of what you do. But to get that sense they need to work with you first!  It's because of this hurdle that direct selling or direct response methods like cold calling or placing ads don't work. Those channels don't get you clients directly. So how can coaches deal with selling the unknown? Make it known and use your web site to do it!
Coaches have a big challenge when seeking clients. They are selling the unknown.

By unknown, I mean that most people who can benefit from coaching, whether it be business coaching or personal coaching, either never heard of it or don't really understand how it works.

When people work with a coach for the first time, there usually comes a point when they say “a ha!” and are better able understand the value they can get.

So trying to get clients can seem like a catch-22. In order to hire you, they need a strong sense of what you do. But to get that sense they need to work with you first!

It's because of this hurdle that direct selling or direct response methods like cold calling or placing ads don't work. Those channels don't get you clients directly.

Dealing with this challenge can be frustrating for many new coaches. They really want to help their clients succeed in their business or in their life, but getting the prospect to sign on the dotted line doesn't happen as often as they would like.

So how can coaches deal with selling the unknown? Make it known and use your web site to do it!

Here are 3 ways:

1 – Write web site copy in terms of “what they do know.”

Prospective clients can relate to their pains and troubles. Their pains and troubles might include not having enough time in a day, trouble sleeping at night, or not making enough money.

They can also relate to where they want to be in the future. Some examples could be having lots of income, having peace of mind and having a happier life.
So when you are writing about your services, be sure to start with things your prospect already knows about, such as their pains and their desires.

Additionally, case studies and testimonials of others you have helped would further your prospect's understanding of what you do. These examples are most effective if they are written in terms of initial problems and end results.

By explaining what you do in terms they know directly, you better communicate what you do. When prospects clearly see what they can get from working with you they are more excited and more interested in working with you.

2 – Give away free information.

Compile an article or report that is helpful to your target prospects. Choose a topic that is directly related to their problems or situations. Then make that report available on your web site for download.

This strategy has a lot of value:
•    Everyone likes free helpful stuff, so they will take action to get it.
•    Once created, giving it out takes almost no time to do.
•    It tells the the prospect that you know their about their business, thus making you a good choice for helping them.
•    Sending people to your web site creates another relationship building “touch.”
•    People can refer this report to other people, increasing your visibility.

3 - Give away a free online assessment.

Create a series of questions on your web site. Then invite your visitor to answer them in return for a score and an interpretation of that score. This gives them helpful information about themselves and gives them a sample of what you do.

This technique has a lot of value similar to the report idea. It's free, doesn't take a lot of time or money to implement, it is automated, it gives value, and it can be referred to others.

Additionally, you can determine which prospects have stronger needs based on their responses. With that information, you can target your sales efforts towards them and increase your closing rate.

In conclusion, use your web site as a tool for educating your prospects. Doing this will gain more trust and grow the relationship until they eventually become your paying client.

3 Steps To Your First Small Business Website

Who is your target audience? How will your target audience find you? How will you convert your visitors into sales? Three questions you should be asking yourself when putting together your first small business website.
When planning your first small business website, there are three essential questions you should ask yourself:

  1. Who is your target audience?

  2. How will your target audience find you?

  3. How will you convert your visitors into sales?

These questions sound obvious, but it's amazing how many people don't bother...and then moan that "our website doesn't bring us any business".

1) Who is your target audience?

Give a great deal of thought to your target market.  Who do you want to attract to your website?  Why?  The answer to that is more than likely to sell them something - a product, a service, or an idea perhaps.

Claiming that your market is anyone and everyone is far too vague, and your website will lack focus, and fail to maximise its potential. Ideally you should be aiming to create a niche.

2) How will they find you?

Creating a niche will also help you with the search engines, and drive hot leads to your site.

Consider what keywords your target market might type into a search engine to find you.  Actually do the searches yourself.  Who comes up in the top 30?  Because that's where you need to be.  Are your competitors there?  Look at their sites.  Do they work?  How can you improve on them? Identify something unique about your business that sets it apart from the rest.

Those keywords - or keyphrases to be more accurate - need to be incorporated into your pages of your site - in the page titles, in the headings, and in the internal links.
Be specific with your keyphrases. They will be less competitive than the more general single word searches, and will more accurately target your market. You may have to localise or specialise to get in that top 30 - and the top 30 is where you need to be to drive traffic to your site. As I am sure you are aware from your own experience, if you haven't found what you are looking for in the first 3 results pages, you look elsewhere.

The key to achieving high search engine rankings is building inbound links to your web pages - that is pages on external websites that link to pages on your site. Crucially this link acquisition should be a natural growth - where inbound link count increases at a gradual pace. The pages that link to yours should be relevant, on-topic and ideally  contain the same keywords - especially in the linking text. Search engines rank pages based upon their reputation - your ranking will be determined by what other (preferably high ranking) pages say about your page.

3) How will you convert your visitors into sales?

Don't just tell them what you do or sell.  Tell them why they want it (yes, want - not need).  Offer incentives, freebies, discounts - anything to get that dialogue started.

Current research indicates that the human brain makes a judgment about a web page within a twentieth of a second! That doesn't leave you very long to make an impression. So, make sure that you have your Unique Selling Point (USP) clearly visible on your home page -  and preferably prominent on every one of your other pages. After all, it's not a given that the home page will be the first page that the visitor sees, particularly if they have found you via a search engine.

Then make sure that you list your bullet-pointed guarantees. Visitors have to understand why you are different from the rest, and why they should deal with you and not your competitors. And as we've discovered, they have to understand this pretty much instantly.

Lastly, make sure that your site has a funnel-like structure. Identify your important pages - usually the "call to action" or purchase pages - and make sure all roads lead to those pages. Your internal links - like their external equivalents - should describe the target page. If you sell blue widgets, don't call your products page "Products", call it "blue widgets", and make sure that the links pointing at this page also say "blue widgets". This will not only help the search engines identify and rank the most important pages in your site, it will also lead your visitor to that all important conversion.

ICANN or Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is a nonprofit organization that is responsible for IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management and root server system management functions.
The late Jon Postel created ICANN in 1998 in response to a policy statement issued by the US Department of Commerce. ICANN has authority over gTLDs (Generic Top Level Domains) that include .com, .net and .org. The organization does not have authority over ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domains), which include .ca (Canada), .uk (United Kingdom), .us (United States), .in (India), .de (Germany or Deutschland), .fr (France) etc.
The board of ICANN is comprised of nineteen Directors, and nine At-Large Directors. Directors serve for one-year terms and are succeeded by At-Large Directors. The At-Large Directors are elected by an at-large membership organization.
ICANN has taken various measures to oversee the domain-name registration system's transition from government hands to private hands and to coordinate its decentralization and the integration into a global community.
A company chosen by ICANN to register and manage domain names on its behalf is a designated registrar. There are several domain registrars offering domain registration services. Some of the top domain name registrars include Go Daddy, Network Solutions, eNom, Tucows, Melbourne IT, Schlund.de, Register.com, Wild West Domains (Part of Go Daddy), Moniker Online Services, and DomainDoorman.

Whois

Whois is a TCP query tool which allows users to sort through a database to find information about the owner of a IP address or domain. These searches are done via the internet, and were originally conducted with a command line interface. However, much of this equipment has been greatly simplified, and information can be accessed from multiple databases. Whois is used by a number of adminstrators.

Originally, Whois was used by system administrators who wanted to look up information on other system adminstrators using their IP address or domain. The use of whois lookup has evolved, and it is now used for either benevolent or corrupt purposes by people who are not system admins. The information within Whois is stored in one of two ways, and these are thick or thin. When a thick method for storing information is used, a single whois lookup server will store all the information for a operator.

With a thin model, the name of the whois server for a operator that holds the full information on the report will be looked up. If the information which is pulled up is not understood, the data from a thin lookup may be used as well. One of the problems with the whois lookup is that there is no clear distinction on how to tell the thick model from the thin. Much of the information for .com and .net domains can be found using Whois thin, while lower level domains such as .org operate on a thick model. A good website with information on whois can be found at whois-it.com.

When the internet first broke away from ARPANET, DARPA was responsible for handling all the information related to domains. The use of whois became widespread during the 1980s, when it became more standardized. Because whois was controlled by one institution, all the information resided on one server, and finding information was relatively easy. Though DARPA handled registration on Whois up until the end of the 1980s, this was eventually transferred over to third party institutions by the end of the 1990s.

As of 2005, ICAAN now handles whois. Despite the popularity of whois among many web users, there are a number of problems. Privacy is an important issue among many people today, and some feel that programs like whois allow blatant violations of privacy.  Because the telephone number and address of the person owning the domain is available for any one to see, this can lead to a number of problems. Many spammers use the email addresses found in whois lookups, and can use this information to send spam to users.

Another problem with whois is the global appeal it has. Because it is based in the US, few countries use it, and this may come as a blessing to those who don't want their personal information falling into the hands of even more people. The whois lookup servers do not have the ability to tell which text is being used to process requests. There is also no centralized list of whois servers, and those who choose to write whois programs will need to manually look for individual servers.

A unique domain name. That's one of the first and most important steps that a new home business website builders must consider. All too often, you see websites created with a free host with a domain name that includes the free host company's business name. If you are planning to market your website and internet business as a professional entity, then you really should buy your own domain name. Your domain name gives potential customers an idea of what is inside your website or online store. Owning your own domain also lends an air of 'permanancy' to your business and reputation.

Other reasons why you should buy your own domain name rather than use a free one from a free host:

If you change hosts, either voluntarily or otherwise, your domain name will go along with you and your customer's will not need to be contacted with a new web address.

A good domain name that describes your business or product helps prevent visitors from being confused and clicking on to someone else's site to shop.

Remember to keep your domain short and easy to remember, something easy to spell and pronounce. My first blog domain name was, and still is, too long - 6 words - with hyphens between each word. It drives me nuts to type it, so I can only imagine how visitors feel if they have to type a long winded web address. Cutesy spellings like adding a Z in place of an S in a word is only confusing, and will quickly loose it's cuteness. To help search engine users find you and increase your traffic, do some keyword research before deciding on a domain name. Keep in mind that you can always register more than one domain name directed to the same website. You can use .com, .net, .biz and protect your website from others of the same kind who register their sites with less popular extenstions.

How do you go about registering your own domain name? The host that I use, Homestead , provides the service as part of the package, for a small extra fee to register. You can buy domain names at other hosting companies. Find them by doing a Google search for 'domain registration' or other similar quearies.

Your Domain -- Just the Facts!

Your domain identifies your business in the eyes of the people searching for the product or products you are selling on your website and in the eyes of the search engines. So, is choosing a domain important?  The answer is yes. I hope to enlighten you to some important elements to creating and owning a domain name.
Your domain identifies your business in the eyes of the people searching for the product or products you are selling on your website and in the eyes of the search engines. So, is choosing a domain important?  The answer is yes. I hope to enlighten you to some important elements to creating and owning a domain name.

What Is A Domain Name
What is a Domain Name?  Your website has a unique address called an IP address. The domain name--in essence, is the IP address with a naming convention. It is far easier for people to remember a name instead of a bunch of numbers.

Creating A Domain Name
Many people new to the Internet and to the Internet Business, do not realize the importance of a Domain Name, they just think they can put up any creative name and people will come.  If you're lucky, that may be true, but in truth, your creativity should incorporate the following tips:

When creating a domain name, you should keep in mind the following tips:
1. If it is possible, go with a ".com" extension.  This is the most common, and easier for people to remember.  In my case, no .com was available, so I opted for the .biz.  Since I'm in a business of affiliate marketing -- I felt it perfect for my needs.
2. The name itself -- Do not use dashes or numbers in your domain name--it is hard for people to remember, unless it is central to the theme of your site.
3. Keep your name as compact as possible -- the fewer words in the naming/description of your website will makes it easier for people to remember your site name, and that is definitely what you want.

Protecting Your Domain Name
Once you have your domain name, and your website is flourishing -- you must protect your domain.

So how do you protect your domain? At the end of the year, the registrar will send you a notice that your domain name is about to expire.  Inadvertantly, you may be thinking, that they just want your money, and they can darn well wait til the date it is due to get your money!  Well, I wouldn't do that.  There is a very legitimate process called "drop catching"-- that can easily destroy all your hard work in one instance.

Drop Catching
Drop catching is a legal process by which people can quickly grab domain names that have expired and use the link to create a website consisting of advertisements -- or worse yet, resell them to make a profit off of your hard earned traffic.  So, it is wise that you do not wait til the last minute to pay your registration.  You do not want to log-in to your site, to find an error, or find out that suddenly you are no longer in business.

The rules of the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), gives domain registrars 45 days after the expiration date to notify the website owner that their domain name is going to be dropped from the registry.  After the 45 days, you have a 30 day grace period, then your domain is up for grabs.  However ..

Some domain services have created an auction process for expired names, such as GoDaddy.com, that begins the auctioning of domain names in as little of 30 days after the expiration date, to prospective buyers.  However, GoDaddy.com does state to the prospective buyer in the auction process, that the original owners still have the option of reclaiming their name.

What's in a name?  If it's a domain name, it can be your future online.  So choose wisely, and protect what you worked, or have been working for -- a business online.
